Your cell phone is not just a phone anymore, and now with the many “apps” on the Apple iPhone, your phone can help you do almost anything, but can it help you get a better score in golf? Maybe!

Now you can use your iPhone to read the wind velocity with the Wind Meter application. It has taken a considerable amount of testing time and program updating for this device to give good approximate wind readings, but it’s up and running now! This top 10-selling weather iPhone application is being used for golf, sailing, boating, kite surfing and other outdoor activities.

But before you run out a buy an iPhone or the application, Terry Lane of BuzzinGolf has this advice, “with most golf clubs banning the use of mobile phones while on the course, I see the use of this actual device being limited to reading the wind speed before you start a round, more than other hand-held devices that can be used before each shot.”

Watch the application in use. What other applications would be helpful on the golf course?
