The IntotheRough blog recently blogged about the top 10 golfers who changed the game forever. This may be a controversial list, as everyone has their own opinions, and with only 10 spots, many great golfers are bound to be left off.

The top spot on the list goes to Allan Robertson. Robertson, who was born in St. Andrews, Scotland, was considered one of the first professional golfers. Legend has it that Robertson was never beaten in a game of golf.

The next golf great on the list is Old Tom Morris, also known as Thomas Mitchell Morris. Morris, like Robertson, was also born in St. Andrews, Scotland, the “home of golf”. He was actually an apprentice of Robertson’s and came in second in the first Open Championship in 1860. He went on to win a total of four Open Championships. Morris is best known as the first real golf course designer. He is credited with inventing the method of top dressing greens, which is how we get smooth fast rolling greens.

The rest of the list includes:
3. Young Tom Morris
4. Harry Vardon
5. Walter Hagen
6. Bobby Jones
7. Ben Hogan
8. Arnold Palmer
9. Jack Nicklaus
10. Tiger Woods

Is there anyone you think was left off the list? Who would make your Top 10? To view more information about the list and the players, visit the IntotheRough blog.
