Twitter seems to be everywhere in the news these days — from Ashton Kutcher battling CNN for a million followers to Oprah getting her own Twitter account. Twitter also seems to be helping the golf industry by allowing the PGA to make closer connections with its fans. Eric Soderstrom of GolfWeek.com shared some of his favorite twitter facts in a recent blog post.

Twitter was the real star at the Masters, helping fans stay connected to professional golfers like Stewart Cink (@stewartcink), who tweeted more than 170 times during the Masters. The Master’s Twitter account, @The_Masters, jumped from 16,000 followers before the tournament to more than 95,000 as of the end of April.

Some of Cink’s best tweets from the Masters:

“Over at my parents’ house dropping off Wednesday Masters tickets”

“Patrons behind twelve tee. Much nicer today. Good attendance every year for practice rounds”

“Zach ripping a draw off tenth tee at 10:45am Wed. http://twitpic.com/3036q” That link is to a picture, or “twitpic.”

“Every year presents some Masters goodies. http://twitpic.com/2wgxx”
